The Salt Lake Small Business Development Center (SL SBDC) provides entrepreneurial education, advocacy and business development to strengthen Utah’s economy and quality of life. They are concerned with the success of small business ventures. Increase Your Understanding and Ability with Classes, Workshops & Seminars
One of the keys to building a successful business is to always be learning. No one knows all the answers, but many have been through the process prior to you and are giving back by sharing their expertise in classes, workshops and seminars. Take the time to inventory your skills and see where you could benefit your business by taking specific classes to augment your business expertise. Counsel with your mentors to see whether it would be best to increase your skills, or hire an employee with the needed expertise. SL SBDC has the following business classes and workshops. This list does not include seminar events (conferences). Check their website for additional events.
- FastTrac First Step: Develop a feasibility plan to evaluate your business concept.
- FastTrac New Venture: Build a business plan on a strong foundation. Thursdays 6-9 p.m. 11 weeks Room: MCPC 333. The course cost is $495.
- FastTrac Growth Venture: Maximizing the growth potential of your business.
- FastTrac Tech Venture: Accelerate your technology business.
- StartSmart: Learn what you need to start your own business. Thursdays 9/29/11, 10/27/11, 10/13/11, 11/10/11, 12/08/11. The cost is Free. The time is 3 – 5 p.m. in room 330 of the Miller Professional Development Center.
- My New Enterprise: Tuesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. 8 weeks in room 330 of the MPDC. The cost is $200.
- How to Grow with Internet Marketing: Successfully integrate, segment and target your marketing strategy online. Tuesdays, 10/04/11 to 10/25/11, 6-9 p.m. for 4 weeks. The cost is $100. The Student pays $100 and is reimbursed $20. It is held in room 109 of the MPDC.
- Strategic Marketing: Create an integrated marketing campaign.
- Market Research: Identify your target market.
- How to Find Customers: Develop strategies to find more customers. Wednesdays, 6-9 p.m. for 3 weeks. The cost is $75. The student pays $75 and is reimbursed $15. It is held in room 330 of the MPDC.
- Money and How to Find It: Tuesdays, 10/11/11, 11/08/11, 12/13/11, 4-5 p.m. The cost is $10. The class is held in room 333 in the MPDC.
- Financial Essentials: How to avoid common mistakes in budgeting.
- QuickBooks: Beginning, intermediate and advanced workshops.
QuickBooks Beginning is scheduled on Monday/Wednesday, 10/17 & 10/19/2011 and 11/28 & 11/30/2011 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $135. It will be held in room 109 of the MPDC.
QuickBooks Intermediate is scheduled on Tuesday/Thursday, 09/20 & 09/22/2011 and Monday/Wednesday, 10/24 & 10/26/2011 and 12/05 & 12/07/2011 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $135. It is held in room 109 in the MPDC.
QuickBooks Advanced is scheduled on Tuesday/Thursday, 09/27 & 09/29/2011 and Wednesday/Thursday, 11/02 & 11/03/2011 and Monday/Wednesday, 12/12/11 & 12/14/11 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $135. It will be held in room 109 of the MPDC.
- Choosing a Business Entity: Learn the liabilities and tax considerations when choosing a legal structure for your business. It is held on Thursdays. The next one is 11/10/11 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The workshop is FREE. It will be held in room 333 in the MPDC.
- Employment Tax Workshops: Individual classes for Self-Employment, Sole Proprietor, LLC Partnership and S-Corporation.
Employer Tax Workshop: Held on Thursdays, 10/20/11 and 11/17/11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is FREE. It will be held in room 333 in the MPDC.
Tax Implications for the Sole Proprietor: Held on Thursday, 10/06/11 from 8 a.m. to noon in room 333 of the MPDC. The class is FREE.
Tax Implications for an LLC: Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon in room 333 of the MPDC. This workshop is FREE.
Self-Employment Workshop (LDS Group). This workshop is held on Mondays 10/10/11, 11/21/11, 10/17/11, 12/12/11, 11/14/11, and 12/19/11 from 1-5 p.m. in the LDS Institute Building on the Redwood Campus
